Meet Tom Carollo: Physician, Father, and Advocate for Youth Mental Health

Tom Carollo

We are excited to welcome Tom Carollo to the Boards of Directors. After completing his college education and residency training, Tom relocated to Santa Rosa to join Kaiser Permanente. Over the past 25 years, he has built a distinguished clinical career, including 16 years as a physician serving the North Bay community.

Today, Tom is the Chief of the Department of Psychiatry for The Permanente Group leading him to bring that leadership experience to Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma-Marin. His leadership experience gives him unique insight into the challenges facing youth and families in our community—expertise he’s eager to bring to Club.

To help you get to know Tom better, we asked him a few questions:

What kind of kid were you?

“As a child, I was quiet and introspective. I was creative and could be found coloring, compiling "books," and designing airports and miniature golf courses. I was curious.”

What values did your family pass on that still guide you today?

“My father's parents were Italian immigrants. They raised their first-generation American children in Chicago and instilled in them the value of hard work and the importance of family and community. My father personified those values and passed that ethos to his children.”

What’s a moment from childhood that shaped your view of leadership?

“Superman was my childhood hero. In reflection, I think I admired Superman's unyielding belief in the goodness of humanity, his support of what is just and right, and his defense of the common good.”

Tom and his partner are proud to raise their teenage daughters in this community they call home. In his free time, he enjoys traveling, skiing in Lake Tahoe, and spending time with his family and two dogs.

We look forward to the expertise, leadership, and passion Tom will bring to Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma-Marin.
